Feeling Aweful Positive

Photo Description: A Covid selftest showing a positive result.

My readers outside of Twitter and Facebook probably missed me these last few weeks. Though i think by the blog title and the photo, it’s obvious where I’ve been.

All mandates and rules in the Netherlands have been relaxed for a few months. Everything is open and we’ve picked up our normal life routine as best we can. Jessica had been travelling to work at the office in Almere, I had started participating in medical fitness and attending other appointments. We’d been on walks and had coffee qith friends. Normal life.

We both have vaccines and boosters so really weren’t afraid of getting seriously ill. Maybe a cold, but not much more. Covid had other ideas however. It’s like a wet, scaley fish that slaps you in the face and leaves its mark for a long time. Jessica received the first slap and spent 3 days in bed before I received the second slap. A full blown flu-like illness for her. Complete with the obnoxious headache. My symptoms were more related to my lungs. With an obnoxious cough. Both easily out of breathe, both easily tired.

Now that we’re three weeks further, we are living with the aftermath. For me that mostly envolves remembering to carry my inhalor everywhere because shortness of breath and the need to prevent asthma attacks, is inevitable. I’m dealing with tiredness too, though that’s somewhat familiar to me as I already had a low energy level before getting sick. The tiredness never fully went away after getting Covid for the first time in March 2020. It had become part of life and I had found a balance between chores and fun things while getting adequate rest. Though the tiredness has now increased a little and I can no longer be stubborn by trying to do multiple things after each other, it’s not a huge life changer. I just have to be patient and listen to my body.

Jessica is a newbie though. She is learning to manage the aftermath for the first time and that’s considerably more challenging when you were otherwise healthy before the wet, scaley Covid fish slapped you. What she’s feeling and experiencing is up to her to share. If you follow her on Twitter or are friends on Facebook, then you’ve read those updates already.

Life is going to look a little different for a while. This will be reflected in my blogs and social media. Now that I’m finding my feet and starting to manage the health changes I’ve experienced while doing my best to Ssupport Jessica through her journey, I can return to regular blogging and Tweeting.

I’ve decided however, that my blogs will no longer be the long diaries that you were reading before. I found it hard to remember everything I did in a week and write it down regularly. Plus I felt the long blog entries weren’t getting as much attention as they take too long to read.

I’ll still keep you updated every week, but in a shorter blog without paragraphs talking about repetative weekly activities.

Also, you can help me decide which time of day I can best publish my blog. Click HERE to take part in my Twitter poll, or tell me in the comments below about when you prefer to read my blogs.

We’re always positive in this household. This time the positivity wasn’t planned or wanted but we’ll continue to use our positive attitude to keep calm and carry on!
